Udinese are said to be in the running for Hibernian centre-back and Scotland international Ryan Porteous, perhaps in unison with Watford.

The 23-year-old is only under contract until the end of the current campaign and has been linked with numerous English Championship clubs.

According to the Scottish Sun and Sportitalia, Udinese have joined the chasing pack for the central defender in January.

Scottish players are increasingly fashionable in Serie A, as after Aaron Hickey shot to fame at Bologna, he was replaced in the squad by Lewis Ferguson, while Josh Doig has scored several goals for Hellas Verona after leaving Hibs.

There could be another synergy between Udinese and Watford, as both clubs are owned by the Pozzo family and so regularly exchange players.

It is therefore likely that Porteous could move to Watford first and then join Udinese in the summer.

Watford only just announced this week that they have signed 20-year-old Canada international midfielder Ismael Kone from CF Montreal.

The intention is for him to then be handed over to Udinese in pre-season.
