Napoli legend Diego Maradona brands new FIFA President Gianni Infantino “a traitor”.

The Swiss was elected as the new head of football’s governing body last week, after Sepp Blatter stood down amid a scandal.

“Infantino is a traitor and that will come out,” Maradona told Piuenne.

“The US haven’t closed the investigation into FIFA. He was carrying all the cards for [Michel] Platini, Blatter too and yet he knew nothing? If that’s the case he’s stupid or senile.

“He’s there now to defend Platini, his boss.”

The Argentinian then turned his attention to Napoli’s season, after the Partenopei fell three points behind Juventus at the top of Serie A.

“I didn’t speak badly of [Coach Maurizio] Sarri, I have the utmost respect for him. Not just now, when he’s been getting good results, but always.

“I’m a fan, and every Sunday I want Napoli to win. The problem is that we drew with Milan when we had to win. We missed a chance there.

“[but] yesterday [against Fiorentina] I saw a Napoli which could have won, thanks to Sarri who has created a team which plays wonderful football.

“The difference between Napoli and Juventus? The players they have on the bench. Juve have players who can come on and help, Sarri looks to his bench to plug gaps.

“Can they catch Juve? They have to continue like this, never give up. Juventus could slip-up, so you have to stay close.

“They also have the Champions League, but maybe they’ll go out, and at the end of the day they’re human beings who could have a dip.

“The next three games aren’t difficult, but they’re must-win games. Juventus can score two goals with half a shot, we saw that against Bayern [Munich] too.

“Chievo, Palermo and Genoa are beatable, but they [Napoli] have to be careful, these are the matches that decide the Scudetto.”

El Diego was also asked whether there’s any chance of him returning to work at San Paolo.

“I’ve read that [President Aurelio] De Laurentiis wants to talk to me, but I’ve seen him three or four times and we’ve never talked about representing Napoli around the world.

“I hope to talk to him. I’m in Dubai, he likes to travel so he can come here for a day and we’ll talk about it.

“I’ll be in Italy, I’ll come to meet the pope and then I’ll stay for a week. I want to go to Naples too, but the problem is that someone [De Laurentiis] wants to talk to me one minute and the next he doesn’t.

“I’d like to talk face-to-face, if I can do something for Napoli then I’d do it willingly.

“Would I come to celebrate the Scudetto? I work here in Dubai, I’m not on holiday, but it would be nice to see the people celebrate a new Scudetto.

“Napoli mustn’t just be Maradona and the past, we can’t say selfish things like that, the kids want to see a Scudetto too.

“I’d be the first to celebrate, but if the President is watching he can send me an invitation.

“If I ever go back I’d go to win, not for a holiday. Before signing I’d want assurances on the team, I’d be a guarantee for the fans.

“Would I be Coach? No, they have Sarri, but I’ve talked about Coaching Napoli before.”
