Roberto Mancini says Nemanja Vidic just needs time to adapt to Serie A, whilst it is normal for Mateo Kovacic to attract other clubs.

Vidic was notably absent from the Coach’s first team picked since making his return to the San Siro bench.

However, in spite of dropping him for the Milan derby on Sunday, the soon-to-be-50-year-old has offered his faith to the centre-back.

“Now we must put together various things, it is not easy to be compact and decisive in the field. We need a few games, some positive results to give belief to the team,” explained Mancini to reporters today.

“For this reason there is time. Vidic missed two sessions last week with a minor problem, but I believe that he is now fine.

“I know him well, we were ‘cousins’ [in Manchester] and I saw him play often. He has experience and will give us a hand.

“I have not seen his performances, but anyone who arrives from the Premier League can encounter difficulties.

“He is assimilating, understanding Italian football and he needs time, as does an Italian player who goes to the Premier League.”

Mancini was also asked about rumours linking the likes of Real Madrid with interest in Mateo Kovacic.

“It is normal that there are offers for Kovacic, all the good players have them. Inter must try to have him progress well and in doing so he will be able to make a difference in years to come.”

The Coach was talking ahead of the Europa League clash with Dnipro. Today he has also been speculated today as interested in one of the opponents’ star men, Ukraine international Yevhen Konoplyanka.

“He is a great player, we must pay close attention to him, he is one of the best players in Europe and could do well in a better squad.

“Have I outlined a transfer strategy with Erick Thohir? We met, having previously only spoken by phone. We spoke about everything, we will have the time to see each other again.

“This was the first impression of Thohir.

“Is there a focus then on developing youth? I believe in youngsters, especially in football in trouble, such as that in Italy.

“If we can find young players to develop fast, that would be to the benefit of everyone.”
