Roberto Mancini feels Inter do better away than at home after beating Verona 3-0, praising Gary Medel and Samir Handanovic.

The Nerazzurri ended their negative streak after three draws and two defeats, while it was also their first clean sheet in seven games.

“Tonight we played well, but then we had done against Sampdoria where we lost. I don’t know whether we seem to do better away from home or what,” Mancio told Sky Sport Italia.

“Maybe we feel the pressure at San Siro, so we need to improve on that. We also have to do better, because banal errors saw us get two bookings and give away counter-attacks.

“This defence had also done well against Samp and we allowed few chances for Luca Toni, who is so dangerous in the box.

Verona had beaten Napoli and troubled Roma in their recent home games, so this was not an easy task, but for a long portion of the match the team did what it needed to.”

Xherdan Shaqiri and Mateo Kovacic have been used as the trequartista so far this season, but Hernanes impressed in that role tonight.

“I believe that is the best position for him, but he can also play centre-midfield. Kovacic and Shaqiri are young, so they will certainly do better in future. Shaqiri just arrived and we need patience to help him settle in properly to Serie A football.

“Medel is an extraordinary player in front of the defence. He has a heart the size of a house and wins back numerous balls. I think if we didn’t have him there, we’d really struggle.”

Handanovic parried a Toni penalty, his fifth of the campaign, but his contract is up for renewal. Would Inter do better to sacrifice Handanovic or Mauro Icardi?

“Handanovic is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, in my view. Sometimes the market forces you to do things you don’t want to. We’ll see what happens, but it’s difficult to say now and I hope all the players can stay.”

Inter’s next match is against arch rivals Milan, but Fredy Guarin and Marcelo Brozovic will be suspended.

“We have to think of it as the Derby and not about the table. We’ll try to win and no doubt Milan will see it the same way.”
