Inter Coach Roberto Mancini believes new signing Geoffrey Kongobia ‘can become one of the best in the world’.

The Nerazzurri are believed to have paid around €40m to sign the midfielder from Monaco this summer, beating city rivals Milan to his signature.

“Kondogbia can become one of the best in the world,” Mancini said at a Press conference following the first day of pre-season.

“He’s young, he has room for improvement, and after the two or three unattainable players I think there is him, he can be like [Andres] Iniesta and [Yaya] Toure.

“The club has made a big investment, but he can be important.”

The Beneamata finished 33 points behind champions Juventus last season, and Mancini admits the goal is to close that considerable gap.

“So far the club has worked well, I think we’re on the right road. What happens on the pitch is always the decider, but a lot have stayed from last year, and we’re improved with new signings.

“We’ll have to do two intense months of preparation if we’re to have an important season.”

Mancio also had a word for his former protegee Sinisa Mihajlovic, who will be on the Milan bench next term, the pair having worked together previously at Inter.

“It’s part of the job,” Mancini told journalists when asked about the prospect of facing the Serbian.

“He’s a friend, and I hope we’ll both be protagonists in the League, although obviously I hope they finish behind us.”
