Inter and Milan transfer target Manuel Akanji is reportedly heading towards the Premier League instead for Manchester City.

The Borussia Dortmund defender is only under contract until June 2023, which has allowed his price-tag to plummet on the transfer market.

He just turned 27 last month and the centre-back has 41 senior caps under his belt with Switzerland.

Akanji had been mentioned as a prime transfer target for Inter this summer, should they sell Milan Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain, with Milan also showing an interest.

However, The Athletic reports that Manchester City are in advanced negotiations with Borussia Dortmund and ready to clinch a deal at a cost of €17.5m.

This would make it even more improbable that Inter could entertain the idea of selling Skriniar this close to the transfer deadline.

Milan have already found their new defender in the form of Schalke 04 talent Malick Thiaw, who was purchased yesterday for €5m.
