Manchester United have taken a step to sign Julian Alvarez, working to beat off the competition from Inter, Milan and Juventus.

The 21-year-old Argentinian forward was voted the best player of 2021 by respected newspaper El Pais, having scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists in 21 appearances for River Plate this season, beating out Flamengo’s Gabigol and Palmeiras’s Gustavo Gomez.

As reported by TyC Sports, Inter, Juventus and Milan have asked River Plate for information about Alvarez and Bayern Munich have made an offer, but now Manchester United have go on the attack.

The Red Devils have contacted his agent Fernando Hidalgo to express their strong interest in the player and to arrange a meeting, which will take place in the coming weeks. The rumours suggest that the Premier League side are willing to pay the €20m release clause.

The big three Serie A sides will now have to work fast if they want to secure Alvarez’s signature before Manchester United close out a deal.

  1. Just beating Gabigol in the stats should make clubs cautious. If Zanetti wants him at Inter he will convince him to join.
