Manchester United owned defender Axel Tuanzebe is set to join Napoli on a loan deal next week.

The Partenopei are looking for a new centre back to strengthen Luciano Spalletti’s defence following the departure of Kostas Manolas last month and now they are only a step away from bringing in a reinforcement.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Tuanzebe is only a step away from joining Napoli on a €500,000 loan deal with a possible buy option attached, which could be set at €15m. Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to lower this fee a little, however.

Insiders suggest that the deal is done and now only small details need to be ironed out. The operation is expected to be fully closed within the next 48 hours, with Napoli pushing hard for Tuanzebe once it became clear that they wouldn’t be able to sign Roma’s Marash Kumbulla.

The 24-year-old Tuanzebe, who is currently on loan at Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, is looking for regular playing time. The English defender, prior to this campaign, has only ever started more than four league games in a season once in his career, back in the 2018/19 season.
