Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has played down his heroics in the Milan derby last night. “I’m just doing my job.”

The shot-stopper kept his side in the game during the first half and he seemed particularly inspired when faced with the prospect of a Mario Balotelli effort.

“Stopping goals is my job and you can’t expect to not make a save in a derby match,” stated the summer signing from Udinese.

“All of the saves you make are difficult, you can't say some are more difficult than others. However, I was pleased with the one where I dived low at Balotelli’s feet.”

Handanovic was again excellent in between the Nerazzurri sticks, but he refused to be drawn in by the euphoria over his display.

“I won’t give myself a mark out of 10,” he added. “Other people need to decide that…

“Goalkeepers in Serie A? I don't think there's one ‘keeper who stands head and shoulders above the rest.

“There are five or six top-class keepers, but not a lot to choose between them.

“As for the goalkeeping on Sunday, I think Gigi Buffon’s save against Siena was the best of the day.”

Inter had a problematic first 45 minutes in the derby, but they secured a 1-1 thanks to an Ezequiel Schelotto goal.

“We managed to pick ourselves up after the interval, although I don't think we got our approach wrong at the start,” he added.

“Perhaps at a certain point a little bit of fear started to set in. We need to improve, we realise we're not finding everything plain sailing and there’s still work to be done.”
