Stephan El Shaarawy scored his first Derby della Madonnina goal, but “we should’ve finished the first half 3-0 up.”

He put Milan in front during a dominant first half performance, but Samir Handanovic’s heroics denied a second and Ezequiel Schelotto earned Inter’s 1-1 draw.

“My first goal in the Derby is something to be really proud of, but the important thing today was the victory,” he told Mediaset Premium.

“We should’ve finished it off in the first half, even 3-0 up, but we didn’t and then conceded the draw. We must continue building on those opening 45 minutes.

“We had at least two clear-cut opportunities, but Handanovic was great at parrying the shots. It’s a real shame about the final result.”

It was Mario Balotelli’s first game against his former Inter teammates and he had two very strong chances to score.

“It was a bit of a strange night for him, but we told him to relax. He had some good chances, but he’s calm even if he didn’t manage to score.”

El Shaarawy is still only 20 years old, but has already become a leader at Milan and could get a contract extension soon.

“For now I am focused only on doing well for Milan, as I am truly happy at this club.”
