The Partenopei should in theory have been favoured by this weekend’s fixtures, as Juve had a very tough meeting with Milan and they visited struggling Sassuolo.

Instead, Maurizio Sarri’s men were held 1-1 at the Mapei Stadium and the Bianconeri earned a 3-1 victory.

“I think we lacked some sharpness in the final third, as many players returned from international duty on Thursday and weren’t fully fit,” right-back Maggio told RMC Sport.

“We knew it wouldn’t be easy and we created many chances, but were unable to take them. I saw Sassuolo players end the game with cramp and they really did give their all. They were desperate for points.

“However, surrender is not in our vocabulary and our objective is to honour the jersey every weekend, playing the last eight rounds as if they were all cup finals. We make no promises, but will give everything to achieve something unforgettable.”
