There were moments of embarrassment in Nyon, when former Arsenal star Andrej Arshavin mistakenly drew Manchester United against Villareal, while Liverpool were included in the pot of the Atletico Madrid’s opponents instead of the Red Devils.
Both Atletico and Real Madrid lodged an appeal against UEFA, asking to redo the Champions League Round of 16 draw, with Europe’s Governing body accepting their request in a matter of minutes.
As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 15:00 CET.

UEFA justified the errors during the draw with a short statement on social media.
“Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16,” they wrote on Twitter.
“As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 15:00 CET.”

A video that has become viral on social media clearly shows Manchester United’s ball was not included in the pot of Atletico Madrid’s possible opponents.
According to MARCA, one of the organizations mistakenly put Liverpool’s ball in the Colchoneros’ draw, although the two clubs could not meet because they had already faced each other during the group stage. Atletico had been drawn against Bayern Munich.
Serie A clubs Inter and Juventus got Ajax and Sporting CP, respectively. But this doesn’t count anymore.

What a joke. I would feel really pissed off and cheated if I was an Inter fan. To draw Ajax in the 1st and botched draw, to Liverpool is just hard luck. Looks like Liverpool are on there way to the semis at the expense of both Milanese clubs. Forza Milan!
Looking at the draw I notice that only 1 team from the Bundesliga made it through to the knock out stages. Whereas 2 from Portugal did – same as Serie A and Ligue 1.

What a shame, UEFA could’nt handle and do things right straight away, blaming the software.
Considering what a huge organisation it is they should have tested the system before and make sure all was in order.
I would blame it on early Christmas drinks….
