Marcello Lippi believes “it will be difficult to bridge the gap” between Juventus and the rest of Serie A.

The Bianconeri have won the Scudetto for the fifth season in a row, despite a start which saw them take just one win from their first six League games.

“No-one can dispute that Juventus deserved this Scudetto,” Lippi told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“It’s almost like Juve told the others ‘we’ll give you a little head start, see if you can finish ahead of us’, but no-one succeeded.

“It’s almost like Juve told the others ‘we’ll give you a little head start, see if you can finish ahead of us’, but no-one succeeded.

“I think their rivals missed a great opportunity, I find it hard to believe that Juventus will drop so many points in the opening rounds in the coming years.

“What’s happening to Napoli now is what happened to Juve at the start. The team has definitely played less well after the loss to Juventus, [Coach Maurizio] Sarri and the club will know why.

“It will be hard to bridge the gap, I can see the Bianconeri dominating in the coming years as the strongest team.

“That said, you have to wonder where Roma would be if the Giallorossi Coach [Luciano Spalletti] had come in earlier.

“The current table reflects the values of the teams, Napoli deserve direct entry to the Champions League.”

Lippi has had two spells as Italy CT, but won’t be returning to the post when Antonio Conte steps down after Euro 2016.

“I won’t return to Conte’s post. They were right to make Conte’s move to Chelsea official, if they hadn’t it would have followed him.

“The team will be competitive and they can compete with the other historic national teams.”
