The Argentinian striker was on the verge of joining the Nerazzurri from Boca Juniors in January, but the deal collapsed amid confusion over his ownership.
Calleri was sold to Uruguayan club Deportivo Maldonado, and then immediately loaned to Sao Paulo, as his registration is partly owned by an agency.
It has been suggested that the Beneamata could revive their interest this summer, but the Brazilian club aren’t sure what will happen.
“Calleri to Inter? I don’t know,” sporting director Luiz Cunha told O Jogo.
“It doesn’t depend on us, it’s down to his agents. In the winter there was talk of Porto as a possible destination, but now it seems there’s another idea.”
