Eusebio Di Francesco’s men were in crisis after heavy defeats to Real Madrid and Bologna, but got back on track by beating Frosinone 4-0 and then winning the Derby della Capitale against their arch rivals Lazio on Saturday.

Aleksandar Kolarov played that game with a fractured little toe and starts again this evening as they return to the old 4-3-3 formation, but Kostas Manolas isn’t risked and replaced by Juan Jesus.

That is largely because Daniele De Rossi, Diego Perotti and Javier Pastore are out injured, so Bryan Cristante and Lorenzo Pellegrini join Steven Nzonzi in midfield.

Cengiz Under and Kluivert get the nod as exciting young wingers around veteran forward Edin Dzeko.

Viktoria Plzen started their Champions League campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to CSKA Moscow, but had been 2-0 up at half-time through a Michael Krmencik brace.

They were eventually pegged back by a penalty deep into stoppages and that leaves Roma only one point behind second place in the group.

Jan Kopic is out injured with Daniel Kolar also carrying a knock.

Naturally, Krmencik is the one to watch, having scored both goals against CSKA Moscow, as he has nine goals in 11 competitive games this season.

The 25-year-old centre-forward has seven goals in 17 senior caps for the Czech Republic.

These sides have already met in the 2016-17 Europa League, when Roma won 4-1 at home with a Dzeko hat-trick and drew 1-1 away.
