Luciano Spalletti warns PSV Eindhoven “have the same character” as their Coach Mark van Bommel, but Inter won’t be content with a draw.

It kicks off on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT), following on from the Nerazzurri’s comeback to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1.

“PSV have a lot of qualities and are very strong physically. They have individual talents who can impact the game at any moment, because they interpret football the same way as their Coach Van Bommel,” said Spalletti in a Press conference.

“You can tell they have the same character he did as a player. They play good football in the Netherlands and I think PSV regret giving Barcelona too much of the initiative in the second half (of their 4-0 defeat).

“We must be quick to put our ideas into action. We are improving at the moment and so will stick to the 4-2-3-1, which to a degree is also PSV’s tactical system.”

Considering Spurs are up against Barcelona, Spalletti was asked if he’d be content with a draw in Eindhoven.

“I have never made this sort of calculation out of principle, but it also sends a bad message to the players if they see something like fear and no longer trust in their capabilities. I am sure we have the right approach to win the game, albeit taking into account the dangers of our opponents.

“The higher we climb, the deeper we need to breathe. It’s a very difficult game, but the last few wins have given us an important boost in terms of confidence and the strength it takes to wear this jersey.

“I have real professionals and intelligent people in my squad, so I expect them to be ready on a psychological level to read this game. The biggest danger is ourselves and we need to take action. We’ve got what it takes to be here and we fought so hard to earn this opportunity.”

There were reports that Milan Skriniar would be re-routed to right-back with Joao Miranda in the centre of defence.

“I can confirm Skriniar will not play on the right,” assured Spalletti. “Danilo D’Ambrosio is fine and in perfect condition. Sime Vrsaljko had two training sessions and he is in the squad.”
