Lazio have released a formal statement demanding an apology from a Sky Sport Italia presenter after Roma fans made insulting chants during Paulo Dybala’s presentation.

The incident occurred in the build-up to the event last night at the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana in the EUR section of Rome.

As supporters were gathering to get ready for the arrival of Dybala, some in the background started singing some traditional insulting chants towards Lazio while the on-field correspondent was speaking.

As she was saying goodbye to the correspondent, in-studio presenter Sara Benci laughed and said he was “just enjoying the chants” from the fans.

It is not clear if she understood the exact nature of the chants, but it proved enough to infuriate Lazio into releasing a formal statement.

“It can happen during live television coverage that an offensive chant will air, of the kind that some Roma fans aimed towards Lazio during Dybala’s presentation.

“What cannot happen is for that chant to be highlighted with entirely inappropriate ironic comments from the studio.

“We expect Sky and the person in question, Sara Benci, to apologise to Lazio fans: if you absolutely cannot be impartial, as various incidents have shown over the year, you should at least have respect for the Biancocelesti fans who pay for your services.”
