Juventus are in talks with defender Matthijs de Ligt over a new contract, according to reports in Italy.

On Monday, a Bianconeri delegation met with Rafaela Pimenta, lawyer and long-time confidant of former agent Mino Raiola, who represents transfer target Paul Pogba.

Later that day, Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene said the meeting had not been about Pogba as the club would first have speak to Manchester United, where the France international has a contract which runs out at the end of the campaign.

And Goal are reporting that among the discussions which took place on Monday was the negotiation of a contract extension for De Ligt until 2026. His current contract runs until 2024.

Juve won the race to sign the Netherlands defender in 2019 amid a host of competition from teams in England, Spain and Germany.

With captain Giorgio Chiellini announcing he is leaving the club at the end of the season, De Ligt is seen as the future of the club’s defence.

At Juve, the 22-year-old has won a Serie A, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa.
