Juventus fans are positively celebrating the news that Adrien Rabiot is on the verge of a move to Manchester United, ending what has never been a good rapport with the France international.

The midfielder had already been targeted by Manchester United and Arsenal when he left PSG as a free agent in the summer of 2019.

He opted for Juventus, and because he was a free agent, received a far higher salary than he would’ve done in a regular transfer.

Today Rabiot is one of the highest earners at the club, picking up €7m per season plus up to another €2m in performance-related bonuses.

Only Angel Di Maria and Paul Pogba, also free agents and new arrivals, earn more at Juve.

Filling a variety of midfield roles, Rabiot remains something of a mystery to Serie A and Bianconeri supporters alike, as it was never entirely clear what he was best at.

Some supporters online jokingly set up prayer circles to hope the move goes through, while others asked if Manchester United would be so kind not only to take him off their hands, but to give them money as well.

The cost of the transfer is expected to be €20-25m.

The main response from supporters online was that they’d believe it when Rabiot was pictured at the airport with suitcase in hand.

Considering they received Paul Pogba from Manchester United for free, it was referred to as a ‘transfer masterclass.’

Another opted for pure sarcasm: “We need to replace Rabiot with someone of the same quality and physical strength. Can such a man exist?”

There was a famous incident last season when coach Max Allegri was caught on camera during a 2-0 win over Udinese warning Rabiot: “If you lose that ball, I will kill you!”

In 129 competitive games for Juventus, Rabiot scored six goals and provided six assists.

He would not be available for the opening Serie A game of this season anyway, as he is suspended.
