Marcello Lippi believes Massimiliano Allegri is planning to bring back Juventus’ fabled trident attack in the second half of the season.

Juve enjoyed great success under Lippi and his forward line of Fabrizio Ravanelli, Gianluca Vialli and Alessandro Del Piero in the 1990s, and the Coach fully expects Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and possibly Juan Cuadrado to succeed his trio.

“Juve don’t usually trip up in matches like this,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport, referring to the Bianconeri’s lost Supercoppa.

“They can have an off-day like against Genoa but usually handle big games. Instead, I saw an unexpected and sudden drop, a team who weren’t at the races, tired, made mistakes and never applied pressure, leaving Milan with the upper hand.

“I understand Allegri’s anger, Juve had the wrong attitude, but they’ll recover like always.

“Return of the Ravanelli-Vialli-Del Piero trident? Yes, it’s possible. I think that’s what Max is thinking.

“Maybe physical condition prevented him from trying it out in Doha, but it’s not an unorthodox tactic.

“I’m convinced that he will try it out. He’s just waiting to have everyone at peak fitness.”
