Italian football has been mired in controversy since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the country over a week ago, with the number of cases now over the 1,000 mark.

Serie A games have either been played or cancelled depending on who the home side is.

The Derby d’Italia, originally scheduled to be played tonight, has been cancelled and rearranged for May 13, much to the chagrin of Inter director Beppe Marotta.

Now it has been announced that the Coppa Italia semi final second leg between Juve and Milan will be played on Wednesday, however any fans of either side living in the Lombardy, Veneto or Emilia-Romagna regions won’t be permitted entry into the Juventus Stadium.

The ruling was announced this evening by the governor of the region of Piedmont, Alberto Cirio.

“Fans that are residents in the regions of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto can not leave the regions from which they come from to follow the teams,” announced Cirio.

“This means in practical terms that the Juve-Milan match can go ahead, because earlier the government gave the all-clear to hold sporting events open to the public.

“However the residents, not the fans, in Lombardy, who are therefore from Milan or Juventus, won’t be able to go to the event.”
