The International Federation of Football History and Statistics has ranked world football’s clubs, with Juventus placing highest from Italy.

The IFFHS has, since 1991, released annual lists taking into account statistics from the world game. Considering results in the club game, the 2013 list ranking each club has been formulated.

Treble winners Bayern Munich have unsurprisingly topped the list and have done so with an all-time ranking score second only to 1993’s Juventus team, say IFFHS.

The Old Lady are Serie A’s best representative, but only come in at 19th in the list, followed in 20th by Lazio.

Milan in 35th, Fiorentina at 38th and Napoli joint 46th are the only other Italian sides to make the top 50.

The IFFHS describe the ranking system as: “[taking] into consideration the results of twelve months of continental and intercontinental competitions, national League matches (including play-offs) and the most important national cup (excluding points won before the round of 16).

“All countries are rated at four levels based upon the national league performance—clubs in the highest level leagues receive 4 points for each match won, 2 for a draw and 0 for a defeat. Level 2 is assigned 3 pts. (win), 1.5 (draw) and 0 (lost), and so on with the next lower levels.”
