The goalkeeper, 34, has had his struggles at the Stadio Via Del Mare since his summer loan move from Roma.

“A few requests did arrive in January,” the veteran noted. “There was talk that I could move on, but I never asked to be sold.

“I wasn’t that interested in what was being said as I have always been focused on finishing the season well with Lecce.

“I came here because I was aware that I could give a contribution to this team and help keep them in the top flight.”

The Brazilian, once labelled as the best third-choice ‘keeper in the world by former Roma tactician Luciano Spalletti, has only made 10 Serie A appearances for the Giallorossi.
