Catania have pulled off a surprise swoop by netting Cesena's Ezequiel Schelotto just before the transfer window closed.

Although the player's agent has spent most of January insisting that his client would remain at the Stadio Manuzzi, a move has materialised.

Parma made an offer for the versatile player earlier today, but Catania eventually came away with his signature.

Schelotto, an Argentine-born Italian Under-21 international, can play as a right-back or as a right-winger.

He joins the Sicilian outfit on loan until the end of the season.

Although he arrives from Cesena, Schelotto actually belongs to Serie B outfit Atalanta.

The player had also been linked with moves to Fiorentina and Juventus.

Catania have also signed Gonzalo Bergessio, a forward, from Saint-Etienne on loan.
