Former Inter and Italy defender Fulvio Collovati believes Suning will sell Inter in a few years: ‘We are in a strange situation here in Milan…’

Inter President Steven Zhang owes Oaktree over €375m, including interest, and must pay the sum back by May 20; otherwise, the American fund will have the right to take control of the club.

During an interview with Sempreinter.com, legendary Inter and Italy defender Fulvio Collovati spoke about the club’s future, suggesting that Suning will no longer own the Nerazzurri in a few years.

“We’re in a strange situation here in Milan. There’s talk of PIF buying Milan, and at Inter, Suning has to repay the OakTree loan,” he said.

“I think Suning doesn’t want to give Inter up. However, as things stand, it seems to be more of an issue of kicking the can down the road.

“Extending, or refinancing the loan, but until when? I can’t tell you exactly when, but the future of Inter in one, two, three, four years will not be with Suning.”

Collovati, 66, played for Milan and Inter during his career as a footballer, scoring seven goals in 168 appearances with the Nerazzurri. Overall, he made 368 Serie A appearances, playing for Udinese, Roma and Genoa as well.

He won the 1982 World Cup with Italy and made 50 appearances with the Azzurri. Collovati retired in 1993 after spending three seasons at Genoa and is now a Serie A pundit for Italian TV RAI.
