The Nations League match kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 GMT at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio-Emilia.

It is a top of the table battle in Group A, as Poland have seven points, Italy six and the Netherlands are on five.

Assistant manager Alberico Evani, standing in for Roberto Mancini again during the coach’s COVID-19 quarantine, confessed he has ‘lost count’ of the number of players who pulled out of the squad.

Ciro Immobile has not yet been given the all-clear from the local health association after his Coronavirus test, while Roberto Gagliardini was sent home following an ‘inconclusive’ test result.

It means Torino striker Belotti is the only real option upfront and he is not 100 per cent fit either, with Evani assuring the forward would ‘not be risked’ if he’s not fully recovered.

The only other centre-forwards available are Udinese’s Kevin Lasagna and Stefano Okaka, although there are those like Federico Bernardeschi and Domenico Berardi who can be repurposed as False Nines.

In defence, Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini have both pulled out with muscular issues, so Lazio veteran Acerbi is practically guaranteed a starting spot in defence.

His partner will be either Milan’s Romagnoli or Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, although the latter made his senior Italy debut on Wednesday in the 4-0 friendly win over Estonia.

There are numerous changes all over the line-up from that game, including the return of Jorginho, Alessandro Florenzi, Nicolò Barella and Lorenzo insigne.

Manuel Locatelli of Sassuolo is also tipped for a start in the 4-3-3 formation’s midfield.

Italy (probable): G Donnarumma; Florenzi, Acerbi, Romagnoli, Emerson; Locatelli, Jorginho, Barella; Bernardeschi, Belotti, Insigne
