The 23-year-old is on loan from Real Madrid and arrived on October 2, so was still in Spain when he caught the virus.

“We aren’t allowed to leave Roma, so we made the most of it and had a training session today,” he said in an Instagram Live chat.

“There are a few positive cases in the squad, but I am not very worried, because I already had it last summer. I had a few symptoms and was unable to finish the season, but I’m more relaxed now because I developed the antibodies, so I don’t think I can get infected again.”

Borja Mayoral is in one of the risk groups for COVID-19, as he is Type 1 diabetic, and was speaking to Sweet Warrior about the condition.

“It didn’t stop me getting where I am now. I’m proud to be diabetic, it helped me to mature and learn many things. People always ask me what I can’t eat, but health is the most important thing. We all have one time a month when we let loose, but diet is important for a professional athlete, especially one who is diabetic.”
