The growing injury crisis at Juventus means Matthijs de Ligt is under pressure to make his comeback against Cagliari next weekend.

This break for international duty has not been kind for the Bianconeri, as both Giorgio Chiellini and now Leonardo Bonucci have pulled out of the Italy squad.

They have muscular problems, and while Bonucci’s injury is yet to be identified, Chiellini is expected to be out of action for circa a month.

They have muscular problems, and while Bonucci’s injury is yet to be identified, Chiellini is expected to be out of action for circa a month.

It means the only available centre-backs for Juve against Cagliari on November 21 are Merih Demiral, Danilo and De Ligt.

The concern is that De Ligt has not played since undergoing shoulder surgery in early August.

He did get the all-clear from the specialist doctor to resume training, but Juve coach Andrea Pirlo was hoping for the opportunity to ease the Dutchman back under less pressure.

Alex Sandro is also ready for his comeback from a long injury lay-off, although he is a full-back.
