The Viola have been remarkably inconsistent in both Serie A and the Europa Conference League this season, their only European victories allowing them to thrash Hearts home and away.

However, a win tonight would put them level top of the group with Istanbul Basaksehir, who won 3-0 in Istanbul last month.

“It is an important match for this group, because we are only a few points away from qualification, and we can hopefully also take revenge on a side that beat us 3-0,” Italiano told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are testing out a few things in training and trying to emerge from a difficult moment. The performances have not been particularly bad, but we needed more focus and concentration to make the difference in the details.

“Our attacking moves have improved, we are starting to get more shots on target, but are now lacking at the other end where we don’t win games because of some errors. It’s at both ends of the pitch that football matches are decided.”

There are some tactical adjustments this evening with a reported 4-2-3-1 rather than 4-3-3, allowing former Verona attacking midfielder Barak to roam between the lines.

“We have the ability of Barak to play in midfield, as a trequartista or a striker, as he did it in the past and scored many goals. We will try to alternate him in various situations this evening.

“Basaksehir are a very good side who are well-organised and perhaps Barak can give us that bit of unpredictability that we have been lacking recently.”
