Italian football is the dominant force in the Champions League this season, as two of the teams and three of the four coaches hail from the Peninsula.

There will certainly be an Italian Finalist in the Champions League for the first time since Juventus fell 4-1 to Real Madrid in 2017, because there is an all-Italian semi-final between Milan and Inter.

This is a replay of the 2002-03 semi-final, which was also a Derby della Madonnina and saw the Rossoneri go on to lift the trophy after beating Juventus on penalties at Old Trafford.

However, the Italian influence spreads to the rest of the tournament too, because Stefano Pioli and Simone Inzaghi are joined in the final four by Carlo Ancelotti.

The only ‘foreign’ tactician left in the competition is Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, who did spend some of his playing career in Serie A with Brescia and Roma.

Ancelotti is of course the reigning European Champion after taking Real Madrid to lift the trophy last season, beating Liverpool in the Final.

It might not just be in the Champions League either, as Juventus and Roma could get into the Europa League semi-final tomorrow, while Fiorentina have one foot in the Conference League semi-final.
