The 23-year-old finished 14th in the Ballon d’Or ranking, becoming the best Portuguese player for 2022.
His compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, finished 20th, his worst result since 2005.
A Bola, one of the most popular sports papers in the country, asked their readers whether Leao is the best Portuguese player at the moment, but less than 30% (29.3%) agreed with that.
Leao has scored 31 goals and delivered 29 assists in 128 with Milan across all competitions.
He joined the Rossoneri in a €30m deal in the summer of 2019 and his contract runs out in 2024.
Leao was named The Best Serie A Player for 2021-22 and the Rossoneri are currently in talks to extend his stay at the club.
