Carlo Ancelotti says he ‘respect’ Manchester City but insists his Real Madrid side was the best team in 2022.

The Premier League giants were named the best team for 2022, beating Liverpool and Real Madrid, who finished third during last night’s Ballon d’Or award.

The Merengues won three trophies in 2021-22, including a La Liga title and the Champions League.

Their striker Karim Benzema won the Ballon d’Or, while Carlo Ancelotti was named UEFA Coach Of The Year in August.

When asked about his thoughts on the award for Manchester City, Ancelotti said: “I don’t know the criteria for these awards. I don’t think they don’t talk about teams because Real Madrid were the best team, who won the Champions League, but in terms of what makes the best club I don’t know.”

Ancelotti spoke at a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game against Elche.

“I respect Manchester City and congratulate them,” the Italian coach continued.

“We had a hard time beating them in the semi-finals, only winning by fine margins, and they won the Premier League. We already won our trophy, the Champions League.”

Real Madrid eliminated City from the Champions League semis last season and beat Liverpool in the Final.

No coach has won the Champions League more times than Ancelotti who has lifted the Cup With The Big Ears four times in his career.

The Italian tactician has recently confirmed that he will end his career once his current spell in Madrid ends. His contract runs until June 2024.
