Milan are searching for a striker, and Vincenzo Montella’s words in today’s Press conference hinted his preference is Nikola Kalinic.

The Rossoneri are looking to complete their squad with a goalscorer, and have also been linked with Andrea Belotti and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, they have been chasing Kalinic for several months, and it could be that this is at the behest of their Coach.

Today Montella effusively praised the club’s summer transfer campaign, but noted “many lads came from foreign Leagues”.

It’s unlikely that l’Aeroplanino used that phrase by accident, and it can be taken as a hint that he wants a proven Serie A striker.

Himself a former striker, Montella also said that many of the signings so far have been “very young”, which could be a reference to the club’s pursuit of 23-year-old Andrea Belotti.

Sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli made a point of telling Corriere dello Sport that Kalinic would not be a second choice, and it’s reported a deal could be concluded on Monday.

If Montella was indeed intimating that he’d like an experienced Serie A striker, then the Croatian would certainly fit the bill.

There is, however, the possibility of a new name emerging, the ‘Mr X’ referred to by CEO Marco Fassone.
