Milan full-back Ignazio Abate calls Leonardo Bonucci “a great player”, and assures his eye is “much better”.

The Italian international has been out since February with an eye problem, but has returned in pre-season with Edgar Davids-style protective goggles.

“The eye is much better,” Abate said in a Press conference today.

“Every passing day I feel more and more secure. Of course I need to put minutes in my legs and train as hard as I can to make sure I’m ready when the official commitments begin.

“The transfer market? All the new arrivals are showing their talent, now it’s up to us to find the right blend to compete in the best way this season.

“Bonucci? He’s a great player, the fact we’ve taken him from a team like Juventus is definitely an important sign.

“I’m sure he’ll give us a big hand, both with his personality and his qualities.”
