“Keisuke Honda had a slight temperature, but if nothing major happens then he will be fit to start,” explained the Coach in a Press conference.

“I have an embarrassment of riches in the squad now, so will make the decision tomorrow morning. Riccardo Montolivo is ready and I have to decide whether he starts or plays the last half-hour. In attack and midfield I might just close my eyes and point, as they are all worthy of a starting place.”

Genoa are in joint third place with Napoli, unbeaten in Serie A for two months and playing on home turf.

“It is a complicated game, as Genoa are third and beat Juventus, but we’re in good form too. It will take a great Milan performance and we are ready.

“I respect Gasperini’s lads and they have home advantage, but we are ready for battle. We need to be compact and organised, lethal when we get the right chance. I hope to see even more improvement from the win over Udinese.

“If we are to target third place, then we need something fantastic, as we’ll be challenging already-consolidated teams like Napoli.”

Genoa’s top scorer Matri is on loan from Milan, rediscovering his form after two disastrous years.

“He is a friend, someone I respect a great deal and I’m happy he is doing well. We spoke clearly this summer and he said he wanted to play regularly. We hope he can return to us, because he is an important player.”

The Rossoneri could do with Matri at the moment, as Fernando Torres has scored only one Serie A goal.

“I can only say what I see and in training Torres gives it all he’s got. I hope he can return to being the Torres we all know, when he finds optimal physical and psychological form. He just needs a goal to break the ice.

“I wanted to sign this player and I never lost faith in him. We hope that tomorrow he can get the breakthrough, if not it’ll be the next game.”
