Pippo Inzaghi was “immensely proud” of 10-man Milan after a 0-0 draw away to Roma. “We played with heart.”

This is the first 0-0 draw the Rossoneri have played in Serie A since visiting Chievo in November 2013, which was 41 rounds ago.

“I am very happy with the result, especially after we went down to 10 men. Before the card I thought Milan were controlling the game and could’ve won it,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“A few months ago I never would’ve thought we could come here and play on such level terms with Roma. I am immensely proud of my players.

“It’s a shame about Armero’s red card, as both incidents were borderline and the referee took a long time to give that second yellow.

“If you don’t come here and play with this heart, you are going to lose against Roma. It’s also a great sign that Zapata was ready with some excellent interceptions to stop Gervinho. That’s a good signal for a Coach.

“We are Milan and so we need to get back to challenging for the Scudetto, not just third place, but of course it is a gradual process. We’ve beaten Napoli and held Roma with this great team spirit and that’s a great sign.

“You have to be ambitious as a Milan Coach, otherwise why am I here? I want to bring Milan back to the heights of the past, but I know it takes patience and time.

“These performances can give us the confidence to push forward and build on this project.”

Rudi Garcia was also impressed with Inzaghi and spoke to him after the final whistle.

“I was pleased he complimented us on our spirit and performance. If opponents realise you’re hard to beat, it means you are on the right track.”

Inzaghi also had a message for old friend Carlo Ancelotti, whose Real Madrid beat San Lorenzo 2-0 for the Club World Cup tonight.

“Compliments to Carletto! We also have to thank him, as he advised us to sign Diego Lopez and Menez.”
