There are very strong reports that Samir Handanovic will return to the Inter goal against Udinese this evening, benching Andre Onana.

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 GMT.

The Nerazzurri are in need of a boost after their disappointing stalemate with relegation threatened Sampdoria and risk falling even further behind runaway leaders Napoli, who already beat Sassuolo 2-0 last night.

However, they are also preparing for the upcoming Champions League showdown with FC Porto and Simone Inzaghi seems to be preparing a big squad rotation.

Lautaro Martinez should be rested and Marcelo Brozovic get his first club start since October.

The big surprise reported by multiple sources, including Sky Sport Italia, is that Handanovic will take the gloves and send Onana to the bench.

The 38-year-old played the first eight Serie A games of the season, but has been on the bench ever since, leaving Onana to take control of the Champions League, Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia.

Handanovic has not featured at all for Inter since the 2-1 defeat to Roma on October 1, having been criticised for his performances.

It is curious that Inzaghi believes Onana needs rest, especially as he was off the field for the best part of a year due to a doping ban and contractual disputes with Ajax.

Hakan Calhanoglu and Milan Skriniar could also be rested.
