According to Tuttosport, Inter remain interested in Paulo Dybala, but director Bario Baccin scouted Italy striker Mateo Retegui in Malta, where the Argentina-born forward scored his second goal in two appearances with the Azzurri.

Retegui made his Italy debut on Thursday in a 2-1 loss against England in Naples. The 23-year-old was born in Argentina on April 29, 1999, but has an Italian passport, so he was eligible to play for La Nazionale.

Several European clubs have already been linked with his signature in the summer, but according to reports in Italy, Inter are leading the race for the striker.

According to Tuttosport, Inter director Dario Baccini watched Retegui in action against Malta on Sunday night, when the Oriundo, scored his second goal in two games with Italy.

Retegui is one of Inter’s options to strengthen their attack next season alongside Roma‘s Dybala.

La Joya joined Roma as a free agent last summer but has a €20m clause in his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

Inter had been in talks with the Argentinean striker last summer before his move to Roma and remain interested in the ex-Juventus star, according to Tuttosport.
