Marco Materazzi praises Inter and Coach Luciano Spalletti as the Nerazzurri look to go top of Serie A.

The San Siro club know they will hit the League summit for the first time since January last year if they can beat Chievo later today.

And speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, club legend Materazzi said former Roma boss Spalletti has been a key factor in Inter’s excellent start to the campaign.

“What would it mean? It would mean they have not lowered their guard at all between August and now,” the former defender commented.

“Luciano Spalletti in the dugout is the guarantee that that will not happen. We knew that from the moment he arrived at Inter.”

Materazzi was asked whether the Nerazzurri would be able to deal with the pressure that comes with being top of the table.

“It is better to think about things one step at a time. After this weekend, they will think about the match in Turin against Juventus.

“If it turns out to be the League leaders against the champions of Italy, you need to give a first-class response.”

The Champions League and World Cup winner added that he was impressed by Juventus’ 1-0 win at Scudetto rivals Napolion Friday night.

“A team who won by working hard. The win at San Paolo was both technical and mental.”
