Inter have confirmed that midfielder Davide Frattesi has suffered a quadriceps injury following a round of medical tests today.

The 24-year-old Italian was left on the bench for the Nerazzurri’s Derby d’Italia triumph over Juventus on Sunday evening. Coach Simone Inzaghi later explained that the club weren’t willing to take a risk after he suffered some pain in training in the days prior to the match.

Frattesi has struggled to fully break into Inzaghi’s Inter squad in his first six months at the club, seeing just 1022 minutes of action across 27 total appearances. In that time, he’s scored four goals and provided four assists, showing a number of positives.

As confirmed by Inter today, Frattesi underwent a round of medical tests at the Humanitas Clinical Institute in Rozzano, which highlighted the presence of a myotendinous strain in the rectus femoris of the thigh right, essentially a right quadricep injury.

He’ll be closely monitored and undergo further tests later this week. He is now expected to miss the Nerazzurri’s coming Serie A clash with Roma on February 10.
