Inter midfielder Davide Frattesi has suffered a rectus femoris muscle injury and is expected to be ruled out of the upcoming Serie A game against Roma.

The Italian midfielder was an unused substitute in Inter’s 1-0 win over Juventus on Sunday due to an injury suffered in the last training session before the Stadio Meazza meeting with the Old Lady.

Inter released a medical update on the Italian midfielder on Tuesday morning revealing the nature of his physical issue.

“This morning, Davide Frattesi underwent medical tests at the Istituto Clinico Humanitas in Rozzano,” the Nerazzurri said in an official statement.

“They revealed that the Nerazzurri midfielder has suffered a myotendinous strain in the rectus femoris muscle of his right thigh. His condition will be re-evaluated in the coming days.”

Inter did not reveal when the ex-Sassuolo midfielder will return to action, but according to several Italian sources, including Calciomercato.com, it’s highly unlikely that the 24-year-old will be available on Saturday when the Nerazzurri visit Daniele De Rossi’s Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Frattesi joined Inter on an initial loan deal with an option to buy from Sassuolo last summer.

The Italy international has collected four goals and four assists in 27 appearances across all competitions with the Nerazzurri this season.
