Samir Handanovic believes Inter can still finish third and qualify for next season’s Champions League, and discusses his penalty record.

The goalkeeper gave an interview to Inter Channel in which he answered a number of questions posed by fans on Twitter and stated his belief that the Nerazzurri could still make third place.

“A lot depends on the next three or four games,” the ‘keeper considered.

“There are a lot of teams within a few points of each other so anything is possible. At this stage the League is balanced and every match is open. Anyone can win.

“We believe we’re improving. I hope we can still improve and fight for third place.

“For the last two years the League has been balanced, there are two teams out in front [Roma and Juventus] and the other teams are all close.

“We have to grow again, and try to compete for everything.

“The Europa League? The final has to be a goal for us, but there are a lot of teams in the hunt. The draw has thrown up a lot of tight games in the Europa League.

“As for Celtic, I’ve already faced them once in the Champions League. I played against them with Udinese, and in a friendly for Inter, and I played against Scotland for the national team [Slovenia].

“These are historic games, this competition is fascinating.”

Handanovic has established a reputation as a penalty specialist, having saved six in a row for the Nerazzurri in all competitions, but the shot-stopper is nonplussed about his record.

“I’ve never said anything about the penalties, it’s others who do that.

“If a player takes a good penalty, the goalkeeper will not save it.

“The record is a beautiful thing, but to be honest I don’t give much thought to it. If I concede, that’s football, I won’t lose sleep over it.”
