Hellas Verona fans booed Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his farewell speech, but the striker immediately hit back: ‘This is your moment, you can see me.’

The 41-year-old announced his retirement from football on Sunday after a 3-1 win over Hellas Verona at San Siro.

It was somehow surprising as, despite his age and injuries this season, he was expected to continue for one more season. In fact, he had been linked with a move to Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani’s Monza.

During his farewell speech at San Siro, Ibra was booed by Hellas Verona fans. It was right at the beginning, before announcing his retirement.

Ibra heard boos coming from the third tier of the Stadio Meazza and immediately hit back, pointing at Verona fans, saying: “You can boo, this is your moment because you can see me.”

It remains to be seen what Ibrahimovic will do now, but considering what he said tonight, he may continue at Milan, becoming a club director.

“It’s time to say goodbye to football, but not to you,” said the former striker who has played for Milan, Inter and Juventus in Serie A.

The Swede won five Scudettos during his career, three with Inter and two with Milan. He also won two Serie A titles with Juventus in 2005 and 2006, but both were revoked following the Calciopoli Scandal.
