According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea would need at least €150m to sign Milan star Rafael Leao.

The Times reported on Tuesday that the Blues are interested in signing the Portugal striker, but the pink paper claims Milan have received no offers from Stamford Bridge so far.

The Serie A champions don’t want to part ways with their star striker and may consider a sale only for a considerable cash offer.

According to the report, Chelsea would need at least €150m to sign Leao, named the best player in Serie A last season.

The 23-year-old still owes €16.5m to his former club Sporting CP for the unilateral rescission of his contract in 2018, while Lille will get the 15% of any future sale, as agreed with Milan when the star striker joined the Rossoneri in 2019.

Negotiations between the two clubs haven’t begun, but the player’s agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly spoken to the Blues. Mendes isn’t Leao only representative. According to Gazzetta, a French lawyer very close to his father is also part of his entourage and would get a commission if the Portugal striker leaves San Siro.

That’s why the costs to sign Leao are so high. His €150m release clause expired in July, but Chelsea still need a similar fee to get the player from Milan.

If Leao remains at the club, the Rossoneri will begin talks to extend his current deal expiring in June 2024. Negotiations between the two parties will reportedly start at the end of September.

  1. I really really think and hope, that ACM will sell him now and in this transfer window. There are no way ACM will pay him his 7 m,ill demand = he leaves on a free transfer next summer.

Imagine what ACM and MMM could do with 100€ this window..

  2. I agree Ace. We need to keep him. It’s to late in this window to even consider selling, but I will say this management would reinvest the cash wisely.

  3. Absolute bonkers to sell him this window and while I do think M&M would use the cash wisely.
I would also hope that when the new owners finally take charge in September that the first thing they do is to authorize the renewal of star players like Leao. It would be a big statement of intent on their part.

  4. Sell him!

Nobody is worth 100m and my prediction is he’s not going to have a good season. There are gaps in his ability. He lacks an end product. He won’t be worth 100m again. This is the chance.

  5. I agree with you Maldinis Heir. We would be dumb not to take advantage of such offer. Sell him and reinvest in the club, its a no brainer!

  6. Take a good look at Liverpool. They built a dynasty around the sales of Suarez and Coutinho.
If they get an offer above 120m they can sign 4 players with Leao potential

  7. However, it is understood that the Serie A giants are unwilling to sell Leao unless the £127million release clause written into his contract is met.
From local media in Canada .

Reports are all over the board. I love this kid. If we sell we better get a good buck !

  8. Leao hasn’t played for us since last may, but it feels like Niang has been been playing. SO if we can get Leao back, then don’t sell him for another couple of years. BUt if Niang continues playing then , definitely offload him for anything over 100mil and reinforce the club.
