According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma will pay Tammy Abraham’s agent €800,000 for the next four years following his summer move from Chelsea.

The England international has been one of the best performers in Serie A this season, thanks to his 23 goals in 40 games across all competitions. He is just two goals away from becoming the most prolific debutant in the history of the club.

Abraham is proving to be worth every penny of the €40m spent by Roma to sign him from Chelsea last summer, even though there are some hidden costs in the deal, such as agent’s fees. The Giallorossi were the third-highest spenders in Serie A for agents’ commissions in 2021, having invested almost €26m.

This includes a part of the fees for Abraham’s agent, who got €800,000 last summer and will earn as much for the following four seasons. Abraham signed a four-year deal with the Giallorossi after his move from Chelsea in August, but Premier League giants have an option to re-sign him in one year for €80m.

  1. Say what now!
If I am understanding this correctly, why would an agent earn money after a transfer is made? So he gets his cut of the transfer then for the next four more years will get more cash because of a transfer he set up!?!?

It is insane that clubs pay agent fee’s, the agent is employed by the player so his cut or any money due to the agent should be paid by the player surely. Why should the club pay the agent as they have their own people working on the deal as well that they need to pay. If that’s the way it worked we would quickly see agent fee’s drop and less agents pushing for clients to leave clubs all the time like we see these days.

  2. @David P, I don’t think the past transfer payment is a problem in and of itself. Roma is probably just spreading the payments so that they don’t have to pay him 4m in one lump sum. Clubs do this for transfer fees all the time.
