There are five Swedish players in Serie A in 2023-24 and some of them are likely to play in the Champions League next season.

There has always been a special connection between Sweden and Serie A. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the most notable Swedish footballer to have played in Italy’s top flight, but many others have made history in the league, including Kurt Hamrin, a former striker for JuventusFiorentina“>Fiorentina, Milan and Napoli“>Napoli and Nils Erik Liedholm, a Scudetto winner for Milan as a player and as a coach and a three-time Coppa Italia champion as the Roma boss.

Both Hamrin and Liedholm had such a strong connection with the country, that they remained in Italy after the end of their playing careers. Hamrin died in Florence this past February, aged 89, while Liedholm, also known as ‘The Baron’ passed away in Cuccaro Monferrato in 2007, aged 85.

But which Swedish players are gracing Serie A these days? There are currently five, and some of them play key roles for their clubs. Swedish fans and media are watching them from abroad and spelbolagutansvensklicens.co has all the info about betting sites for information and comparison purposes. Most of these players are involved in the race for the Champions League in Serie A as well as the Europa League victory, so there are plenty of opportunities to gamble on their matches before the end of the season.

Emil Holm and Isak Hien, both under contract with Atalanta, are among the best Swedish players in Serie A. Jesper Karlsson joined Bologna last summer, as did Pontus Almqvist, who joined Lecce, and Jens Cajuste, who signed for ex-title holders Napoli.

Hien moved from Hellas Verona to Atalanta in the January transfer window and is one of the most interesting centre-backs in the league. He started both games against Liverpool in the Europa League quarter-finals, contributing to Atalanta’s qualification to the semi-finals.

His compatriot Holm took a while to earn a starting spot but has become a regular in La Dea’s XI in the second part of the campaign and has one goal and four assists in 30 appearances across all competitions this season.

Karlsson has followed an opposite trajectory at Bologna. He was a semi-regular starter in the first few weeks of 2023-24, but he has fallen down Thiago Motta’s pecking order lately and has only made eight appearances across all competitions this season.

Almqvist had a solid start at Lecce with two goals and one assist in the opening 11 Serie A games, but despite regular playing time, he hasn’t been too effective in the final third and currently has just two goals and two assists with the Salentini. It must be highlighted that new coach Luca Gotti has been using the 24-year-old as a right midfielder in a 4-4-2 system, while Roberto D’Aversa often deployed the Sweden international as an attacking winger in a 4-3-3 formation.

Last but not least, Cajuste was one of Napoli’s summer signings after their title-winning campaign, but the 24-year-old struggled to settle in at the Stadio Maradona also due to the team’s poor results and the many managerial changes. Rudi Garcia, Walter Mazzarri, and Francesco Calzona were appointed through the 2023-24 campaign, but none managed to achieve the results expected by President Aurelio De Laurentiis. Cajuste was also affected and the central midfielder has only provided one assist in 30 appearances with the Partenopei.
