Chelsea are reportedly hoping to complete the signing of Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain before their game against Arsenal on Saturday.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea ‘agreed a deal late last night’ for Higuain and have until midday on Friday to register him in their Premier League squad so he can face Arsenal.

The newspaper explains the Blues will bring in the Argentine on an initial loan from Juventus until the end of the season, with the option of another 12 months, as opposed to just taking over Milan’s agreement, which included a €36m obligation to buy.

Furthermore, the option would only be ‘dependent on how many goals and appearances he makes, as well as what success Chelsea have’.

The 31-year-old would also be ‘on standby’ for a flight to London later on Thursday so he can undergo a medical and sign his contract with Maurizio Sarri’s side before tomorrow’s deadline.

Higuain did not start the Supercoppa on Wednesday due to a ‘fever’, although he did appear as a substitute, and refused to answer questions about Chelsea.
