Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic saw a foul of Giorgio Chiellini in the first half of last night’s match against Juventus and defended Gigio Donnarumma: ‘It’s easy to target one player…’

The Slovenia international managed to keep a clean sheet in Inter’s 1-0 win at the Allianz Stadium last night.

“This victory has a significant value. We didn’t create much, but we showed personality and we must have enthusiasm now,” Handanovic told DAZN.

“It was crucial to winning. Juventus are not like any other opponent. We are happy.”

Juventus came close to scoring in the first half after the goalkeeper flapped at a cross so the ball went straight up in the air. Giorgio Chiellini hit the crossbar as it came down, but Handanovic saw a foul from the Italy international.

“It was foul and Chiellini knows that. Had the ball crossed the line, it would have been disallowed. He apologised and it’s fine like that,” said the goalkeeper.

Handanovic’s contract expires at the end of the season. Inter have already secured the services of Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana who will join the Nerazzurri as a free agent in the summer.

The arrival of the Cameroon international is not a matter of concern for the Nerazzurri captain. “I have no problems,” he admitted.

“Competition is normal and I am ok with it. The important thing is that Inter come back stronger. I must focus on the last few games and then we’ll see.

“I haven’t even signed a contract extension, so let’s see. However, I want to say something about Donnarumma…

“He can become the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s easy to target one single player when the whole team is involved. I can see only great things for him in the future, but he must want it.”

Italian media had hugely criticised the PSG goalkeeper following Italy’s elimination from the World Cup play-offs last week. The 23-year-old moved to France on a free transfer from Milan one year ago.
