Marek Hamsik maintains Napoli “are still in the Scudetto race” despite a poor start to the season.

The Partenopei are in seventh place after three wins, one draw and two defeats, already eight points adrift of leaders Juventus.

“We are still in the Scudetto race, but mustn’t let Juventus and Roma build up the gap even more,” Hamsik told topmercato.com.

“We started badly, but this is a great team with many talented players, so I believe we are still in the running for this objective.

“There are so many games left this season and there is the possibility to catch up. We didn’t reach the start of this campaign in the ideal conditions.

“We’ve already lost two matches, which are too many after just six rounds, but I think from now on we can do much better.”

Hamsik appears to be rediscovering his confidence, as he scored twice for Slovakia in their Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus last night.

“I believe this break for international duty will do everyone good. We can rediscover our fitness and raise the quality level of our football.”

Napoli face a huge test this weekend away to Inter.
