FIGC president Gabriele Gravina was happy to see the emergence of some talented Italian youngsters in Serie A and reiterated his trust in Azzurri coach Roberto Mancini.

A number of young Italian talents are impressing in Serie A this season, with examples including Juventus duo Nicolo Fagioli and Fabio Miretti, Cremonese’s Marco Carnesecchi and Roma’s Cristian Volpato. The future of the Italian national team is starting to look bright following the second consecutive World Cup qualification failure.

Speaking after the ‘La Storia siamo noi’ event in Coverciano, Gravina first discussed the increasing emergence of talented Italian youngsters in Serie A.

“We want to look ahead. We are planning a path, where victory for us is not the only asset on which to base our commitments.

“There is a path that leads to success and Italian football is starting to see talent, proving that the talent is there and if we believe in it the youngsters will respond in the right way.”

He reiterated his trust in Azzurri coach Mancini.

“We believe in Mancini and we believe in his work, he makes us feel calm. This calmness then needs the support of trust that is won with results. Then you need the trust that also comes with results.”

The FIGC president commented on Italy’s qualification to the Nations League Final Four.

“Recently we achieved qualification to the Nations League, which is a meagre consolation, but for us it is an important result because it came with young players.

“We are worried about the limits of choice, the coaches do not have large numbers to prepare an increasingly competitive squad. But we are confident of achieving results quickly.”

Finally, Gravina discussed if Italy would host a training camp during the World Cup break.

“We are working on it, there should be one between December 19 and 22.”

Italy are still working on their squad rejuvenation project ahead of their next major tournament in 2024.
